Pale Blue Beaded Scarf
This scarf is part of the Andrea Jurgrau’s Winter Shawl Design for 2012 and was a small project to practice knitting the hex mesh pattern.
This is a recycled cashmere yarn from The Twice Sheared Sheep and it’s so soft and fine. The mesh pattern of the scarf was a perfect pattern for the yarn and it also involved an edging where you placed the beads onto the yarn before knitting and then added one to the start of each row using a yarn over and at the end of the row you slip the yarn over and bead off the needle. Very clever!
It’s quite a tiny shawl and I’ll probably wear it thrown around my neck with the pointed end at the front and the ends draped around the back of my neck and folding forward over the shoulders. Because it’s so soft it scrunches up perfectly to fill in that bare skin at the neck area on a cold day.
2012 BOM
None of you ever have nothing to do or are bored, are you?
But just in case you wanted to stitch a lovely, new, and free Block of the Month, Promises and Borders, from Jenny of Elefantz, here is the link or just click on the picture above and it will take you to her page.
The Block of the Month runs for 10 months.
I think it sounds lovely and you could choose fabrics in your favourite colours and style and then match your threads for the embroidery.
At this point of time I won’t be taking on the monthly task of stitching the blocks but I will be saving them to do sometime in the future.
Thank you Jenny for your generosity!
2011 in Photos
Well, with some days missing here and there I did finally complete my Photo A Day project for 2011.
I’m going to do it again this year.
I did not realize how hard it would be to take a photo every day and I’m better prepared this year with camera, iphone and the knowledge that creative pictures are everywhere, even in the places you don’t think they will be or even the times you don’t feel like taking a photo.
Hello 2012

Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy New Year.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

The End of the Year
What does one say? Goodbye 2011 Hello 2012!
39C for New Year’s Eve here, 41C for New Year’s Day and at the moment I’m sitting in an air-conditioned office writing this post, the last one for 2011.
I do have a few challenges for 2012. Mentally, and physically sitting around doing nothing drives me bonkers so I have a small list of things I want to do in 2012.
- Finish my 26 Pairs of Socks in 52 Weeks project. (Currently I have completed 15 pairs of the 26.) End date is 30th June 2012 so I should be able to complete the 26 pairs.
- Two new mystery socks are starting in January so I’m going to knit them.
- Take more photos. On Google+ there is a Project 52 (taking a photo/week) and Project 366 (a photo/day) which I will tackle.
- Read more books (my reading list at Goodreads is getting out of control!)
- Complete some more Mystery shawls which I was unable to start this year due to the sock project.
- Study an online class to learn about textures and texture blending and using them with my photos to create works of art. My mum will be happy to know I have finally found a use for the money she gave me for my birthday back in August.
- Finish off my Drunkard’s Path quilt.
- Exercise, exercise, exercise (my sons and I go to Crossfit classes together, so much fun!) Of course they are going to end up being way, way fitter than me but it’s the together time which is really nice.
- Spend time with family.
My sewing is still taking a back seat to other things, including a lack of space, and general everyday life jobs take time too. However I do keep reading other people’s sewing blogs and like being continuously inspired by the clothing people are making and wearing.
This photo is especially for my mum and Irene who asked what I was making with the pale blue yarn and beads. Here’s just a snippet!
